Police Investigate Over 30 Shots Fired Incidents Since Friday in Newark

Newark

Two early morning shots fired incidents that occurred in Newark's West and Central wards have skyrocketed the grim total of shootings in Newark to about 31, with just over a dozen victims, and one confirmed fatality since Friday.

In the latest shootings, according to police, just after midnight, Newark West Ward Police officers rushed to reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of Ellery Avenue and Varsity Road.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found several shell casings in the street, but after searching the neighborhood, no victims were found.

Police say at approximately 12:17 a.m., police responded to gunfire that erupted in the vicinity Springfield and Morris Avenues to investigate reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, police said armed suspects blasted multiple rounds of bullets in the neighborhood before fleeing the scene on foot. Officers searched the area for victims, but there were no injuries reported.

The lawless example of gun violence that has gripped just about every ward in The City of Newark had heavily armed men pulling up in the neighborhood and exploding round after round of bullets that struck about 13 residents and killed a woman at the Bradley Court Housing Complex in the West Ward this week.
