Police Investigate Late-Night Gunfire in Newark's South Ward

Authorities are investigating a shots-fired incident that occurred late Saturday night in Newark’s South Ward, according to preliminary reports.

At approximately 11:27 p.m., a ShotSpotter device activated near the intersection of Shephard Avenue and Bergen Street, alerting police to possible gunfire in the area.

When officers arrived, they secured the scene and recovered shell casings. 

After canvassing the neighborhood, no victims were located and no injuries were reported.

The suspect fled the area before police arrived and has not yet been apprehended. Investigators have not determined a motive for the shooting.

The incident remains under active investigation by Newark authorities.
