Police Investigate After ShotSpotter Detects Gunfire in Newark Neighborhood

Newark authorities are investigating a Wednesday night shooting incident after a ShotSpotter device detected gunfire in a city neighborhood, officials said.

According to police, the alert was activated around 10:15 p.m. in the 500 block of South 18th Street. 

Responding officers arrived to find several shell casings on the ground.

A search of the surrounding area determined that no injuries were reported. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived and remains at large.

No arrests have been made, and investigators have not released additional information about the motive or circumstances surrounding the shooting. 

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
