Authorities are investigating a Wednesday afternoon shooting in Jersey City after a ShotSpotter device detected gunfire in a residential neighborhood, officials said.
According to police, the alert was triggered around 1:57 p.m. in the 100 block of Rutgers Avenue.
Responding officers arrived to find several shell casings on the ground, indicating a shooting had occurred.

A search of the area found no victims, and police believe the suspect fled before officers arrived.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
No arrests have been reported as of Wednesday evening.
