Police Increase Safety Measures Following Fatal Shooting in Maplewood

Maplewood

City officials addressed residents following a fatal shooting that occurred inside a Maplewood restaurant Sunday evening.

According to Maplewood Police Chief Jimmy Devaul, officers are monitoring the Springfield Avenue corridor by way of increased foot patrols and high visibility inspections.

Chief Duvaul says he wants to reassure the community that the fatal shooting is an active investigation and they are working collaboratively with the Essex County Prosecutors Office.

"As the investigation continues, further information will be released as it becomes available and at a time when such communication will not impede the investigation" Chief Duvaul said.

Community members are reminded that “if you see something, say something."

Chief Duvaul wants to remind residents to be vigilant of all suspicious persons, vehicles or activity by immediately contacting Maplewood Police directly at 973-762-1234 or be dialing 911.
