Police, Firefighters Deliver Baby in Newark on Thanksgiving Day

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announces the delivery of a baby girl this morning by members of the Department of Public Safety’s Police and Fire Divisions.

Director Ambrose said, this morning at approximately 7:30 a.m., the Police and Fire Emergency Call Center received a call that a woman was having a baby.

Police and firefighters were immediately dispatched to an apartment located in the 300 block of Hunterdon Street where wWhen they arrived, they found the woman was going into labor Director Ambrose said.

Working together, members of both divisions aided in the successful delivery of a baby girl.

The mother and newborn were transported to the hospital where they are reportedly doing fine.

Director Ambrose commends members of the Newark Police Emergency Response Unit and Newark Fire Engine 6. “The training our officers and firefighters receive not only saves lives, but in this instance, it helped them bring a new life into this world. This was the result of collaborative efforts and extensive training. This has to be a very special gift for the parents, having a baby delivered on a day dedicated to thanks.”

Mayor Ras Baraka said, “On this Thanksgiving Day all Newark gives thanks for our police and Fire for all that they do for us throughout the year and especially today for helping bring this Thanksgiving baby into the world”
