Police Find Over a Dozen Shell Casings After a Shooting at NCC Housing Development in Newark

Police recovered over a dozen shell casings during an overnight shots-fired investigation at a Newark Central Ward Housing Complex.

The late-night shooting happened shortly before midnight near 72 Hayes Street.

According to a preliminary investigation, police responded to a ShotSpotter device that activated near Springfield Avenue and when cops arrived, they found multiple shell casings.

Police say bullets struck a car, but no one was inside the vehicle.

Authorities placed hospitals in the region on alert for potential walk-in gunshot victims.
