Police Find Loaded Shotgun Behind Trash Can in Elizabeth

Police today are looking for the person responsible of leaving a loaded shotgun behind a trash can in Elizabeth this morning.

According to police, shortly after 4:30 this morning, a resident called police reporting the a man was walking on South Elmora Avenue with a rifle, police said. 

The resident continued to follow the armed man - at a safe distance - as he turned on New York Avenue.

The witness then told police that the armed man  allegedly put something down on the 500 block and then continued on his way.

Responding officers found a fully loaded, 12-gauge Remington tactical shotgun behind a trash can. 

An extensive area search for the man came back negative.
