Police: East Orange, Newark Men Dumped A U-Haul Full of Garbage in Newark Neighborhood

Newark

There are continued crackdowns and enforcement of illegal dumping in an effort to keep Newark neighborhoods clean for residents, business owners, and those who visit Newark.

The Newark Police Department's Illegal Dumping enforcement unit scoped out and arrested several men who allegedly pulled a U-Haul truck to a Newark South ward neighborhood and began to dump loads of household items in the area.

According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose Mr. Anthony D. Lawson, 24, of East Orange, and Mr. Charles A. Williams, 50, and Mr. Michael Williams, 63, both of Newark, were taken into custody for an incident of illegal dumping on Tuesday.

According to Director Ambrose, at approximately 10:55 a.m., members of the Illegal Dumping Task Force observed three men exit a U-Haul truck parked on the sidewalk in the 200-block of Dayton Street and dump various household items including cabinet doors, crates, a mattress and box springs, clothing, and large garbage bags onto the sidewalk.

Director Ambrose said, members of the Illegal Dumping Task Force arrested the three men, then charged them with illegal dumping and illegal transport of solid waste then police towed the U-Haul truck from the scene.

These charges are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
