Police Clear Suspicious Packages in Downtown Newark

Authorities cleared two packages that were deemed suspicious after someone left them on a downtown Newark street.

Police were called to the intersection of Edison Place and Mulberry Street at around 12:15 a.m. after a caller reported seeing two suitcases left at that location.

Officers arrived an conducted an investigation where they found that the suitcases may have been left by a less fortunate person who was looking to find a place to rest for the overnight.

According to preliminary reports, the suitcases contained blankets, clothing, and other items but nothing considered suspicious.
