NEWARK NJ: Early morning gunfire in the area of Avon Avenue and Bergen Street had a crime scene established after gunmen unloaded several shots in the South Ward neighborhood at around 3 a.m.
Police chased a vehicle carrying several suspects in the area of Pierce Street near Woodland Avenue where they apprehended three suspects after a foot pursuit.
Officers reportedly located a weapon inside the vehicle.
It is not immediately clear if the suspects are responsible for a string of shootings that occurred around the city's South Ward that included the 700 block of South 11th Street (two injured) , at least one vehicle that were penetrated by gunfire on Seymore Avenue, bullets penetrated the lobby of a building on Elizabeth Avenue and Renner, the 20's block of Johnson Avenue, and a shooting that occurred on 15th Avenue and South 18th Street earlier in the day.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
