Two Men Charged with Newark Carjacking; Third Suspect at Large

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest of Bishaun Y. Williams,19, and Rasjohn Waller, 39, both of Newark, for a carjacking that occurred on Jan. 6th, 2017.

According to police, officers responded to a call of a carjacking in the area of Elizabeth Avenue and West Peddie Street at approximately 12:45 a.m.

Investigations on the scene revealed that the vehicle of a 35-year old male victim was struck from the rear by a black Honda. When the victim exited the car to check for damages, he was approached by the Honda’s driver and two additional suspects. The victim was robbed at gunpoint of his car, a gray 2015 Dodge Charger, his wallet and other personal items.

Officers canvassing the area of Irvine Turner Boulevard and Avon Avenue observed the carjacked vehicle and attempted a motor vehicle stop. The driver ignored their commands and began speeding, crashing the vehicle into a fence on Irvine Turner Boulevard. Two suspects then exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Williams ran into an area residence and was immediately apprehended and taken into custody without further incident.

As part of their investigation, detectives determined Rasjohn Waller was the second suspect involved in the carjacking. A warrant for his arrest was obtained and he was taken into custody by members of the Fugitive Apprehension Team on Friday without incident.

Williams is charged with Carjacking, Conspiracy and Resisting Arrest.

Waller is charged with Carjacking, Robbery, Conspiracy, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

This investigation is continuing.

A third suspect remains at large.
