Police Arrest Two for Attempted Homicide in Clayton

The Clayton Borough Police Department is investigating an attempted homicide that occurred in the town on September 28.

According to police, officers were dispatched, at approximately 5:14 p.m., to 32 N. Delsea Drive on a report of a victim who had sustained serious injuries.

Police report that after being transported to Cooper Hospital, it was discovered that the victim, 48-year old David Cardonick of the same address, had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Upon confirming the nature of Cardonick’s injury, the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit worked closely with Clayton Police Department to aggressively investigate the shooting incident, gathering key evidence, leading to the arrest Victor A. Kaganzey, 20, and Christopher D. Velez, 21, both of Glassboro.

Officials report that Kaganzey and Velez were both charged with Accomplice to Another in Attempted Murder, Possession of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of Weapon, Criminal Attempt Murder

Both defendants are detained pending further court action.

Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of their rights as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State Law.
