Police Arrest Somerset Man for Possessing Loaded Gun

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ - Somerset County officials announced the arrest of Mr. Donte Dowdell, 25, Voorhees Avenue, Somerset. 

Prosecutor Robertson stated that on Friday, January 8th,  at approximately 7:30 p.m. members of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force along with Franklin Township Police detectives were conducting a “Quality of Life” investigation in the area of Millstone Road in the Somerset section of Franklin Township, N.J.

As a result of this investigation, police said Task Force detectives conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of Spruce Street.  Upon further investigation during the motor vehicle stop, Donte Dowdell was found to be a rear-seat passenger in the vehicle and was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm Ruger P95 in the pocket of his jacket. 

Task Force detectives seized the loaded 9mm Ruger P95 without incident and placed defendant Donte Dowdell under arrest. 

They seized 9mm Ruger P95 was found to be loaded with 10 rounds in the magazine and 1 round in the chamber, police said. 

 

Prosecutor Robertson stated that defendant Dowdell was charged with 2nd-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and 2nd degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.  

Defendant Dowdell was lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a bail detention hearing.
