Police Arrest Several in Separate Reports of Weapon Possessions in Newark

Newark

Authorities in Newark made several overnight arrests of suspects connected to weapon possessions in the city.

Police took two men into custody at around midnight after officers noticed about five men riding bicycles and menacing pedestrians near the Rutgers Campus.

When police attempted to question the suspects, one of them reportedly pointed what appeared to be a weapon at officers, then sped off.

Police canvassed the area where they located and arrested two of the suspects near Broad Street and Market Street. The other three suspects are still at-large.

Shortly before 1:30 a.m., a foot pursuit of two male suspects wanted for possible weapon possessions that began in the 90's block of 1st Street had police capture the suspects in the area of Duryea Street and Sussex Ave. a short time later.

Police recovered a handgun in the area.

One of the suspects received medical attention for a reported hand injury.

There were no injuries to police officers reported.
