Police Arrest Newark Woman for Making False Carjacking Report

Newark

Police in Newark are reporting the arrest of Ms. Camilla B. Ward, 28, of Newark, for making a false carjacking report when the vehicle was stolen after it was left running with the keys inside.

“This is a far too common occurrence,” Director Ambrose said. “People who leave their cars running and unattended are inviting theft and will be also be arrested if they falsify a police report, claiming a carjacking.”

Officials say police responded to the 600 block of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. on a report of a carjacking on Monday, October 7th.

According to police, Ward stated that a man demanded her vehicle at gunpoint when she exited a store at around 10:20 p.m. Police located the car the following day on Rose Street.

Detectives investigating this incident determined that the vehicle was not carjacked, but stolen due to Ward leaving the car running and unattended.

Police charged Ward with making a false report to law enforcement.

This charge is merely an accusation. This suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
