Police Arrest Newark Man Wanted in String of Burglaries

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest of Efrain Guzman, 38, of Newark, for a series of burglaries that occurred between Dec. 16th and Dec. 27th, 2016.

According to police, at approximately 3:51 Friday morning, officers responded to Felito and Brothers Auto Repair, located at 242 Park Avenue, on a call of a burglary. The owner reported that tools were stolen along with a customer’s car radio.

A second report was taken on Dec. 22, when police responded to AmCare Rx Pharmacy, located at 36 Park Avenue, on a call a burglary that occurred at approximately 6 a.m. Upon arrival officers observed an open cash register and open medication drawers. Cash and medications were stolen.

On Dec. 23, police responded again to AmCare Rx Pharmacy on a burglary call at approximately 7 p.m. In this incident, the door to the basement was broken and cash was taken from the register.

On Dec. 26th, officers responded to a residence at Park and Mount Prospect avenues on a call of a burglary. A backyard shed had been broken into and several power tools were stolen, including jack hammers, nail guns, air compressors and electric saws.

A concerned citizen reported that an individual was occupying a vacant residence in the area of Cutler and Crane streets. Officers located Efrain Guzman inside the residence with an assortment of the stolen power tools.

Guzman was arrested without incident.

He is charged with Burglary, Receiving Stolen Property, Theft, Criminal Trespass and Theft of Loss/Mislaid Property.
