Police Arrest Newark Man for Loaded Weapon, Drug Possession

Police officials in Newark reported the arrest of Mr. Alshamir T. Sampson, 22, of Newark, for possession of a loaded weapon and CDS yesterday.

According to reports, 5th Precinct officers patrolling the area of Pennsylvania Avenue and Parkhurst Street at approximately 7:30 p.m. observed a narcotics transaction between Sampson, from inside a vehicle he was driving, and an unknown male who fled the scene.

Officials say that police found Sampson in possession of over 10 glassine envelopes of heroin, numerous vials of cocaine and a loaded semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine.

The handgun had been reported stolen out of Pennsylvania. Sampson was also in possession of clear zip-lock bags, rubber bands, and other drug paraphernalia.

Sampson was immediately arrested and is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a weapon while committing a CDS offense, CDS possession (cocaine and heroin), CDS Distribution, CDS Distribution within 1,000-ft. of a School, CDS distribution within 500-ft. of a public park, certain persons prohibited from weapon possession, possession of prohibited ammunition (hollow points and extended magazine), possession of CDS paraphernalia and receiving stolen property (handgun), reports say.

He was further issued a summons for possession of CDS in a motor vehicle according to police.

These charges are merely accusations. This suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
