Police Arrest Man for Falsifying Carjacking Report in Newark

Newark Police arrested **Mr. Manuel Mayancela, 25, of Newark**, for falsifying a carjacking report in an incident that occurred Saturday morning.

According to police, at approximately 5:30 a.m., Mayancela reported to members of the 3rd Precinct that he was carjacked at 10 p.m. last night in the area of Market and Polk streets.

Police say he reported that an unknown person opened his driver-side door, assaulted him then forced him out of his 2003 GMC Savana.

Police say they responded to a report of a 2003 GMC Savana colliding with six parked vehicles at Merchant and Clover streets shortly before 1 a.m. Mayancela’s car was identified at the scene.

Witnesses reported that a Hispanic male, fitting the description of Manuel Mayancela, had fled the scene after the vehicle struck the parked cars.

Detectives investigating this incident determined that Mayancela fled the scene of the collisions and had fabricated the carjacking incident.

Officers placed him under arrest for Falsifying a Police Report (carjacking).

This charge is merely an accusation.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
