Early this morning, Woodbridge police arrested a man suspected of setting fire to his own home in the Menlo Park section of town.

The blaze at 86 McGuire Street, reported at approximately 3 a.m., destroyed the residence, damaged five neighboring properties, and injured four responding police officers.  AdEmergency responders, including police, firefighters, EMS, and the Office of Emergency Management, arrived at the scene to find the fire spreading rapidly.

An investigation quickly determined that the fire was intentionally set.

During their efforts, officers encountered the suspect, identified as Anthony Burke, 57, believed to be the homeowner.

When officers attempted to engage with him, a struggle ensued, leaving four officers injured and requiring medical treatment.

Burke also sustained injuries, reportedly from starting the fire. Both the suspect and the officers were treated at a hospital and have since been released.

The fire completely destroyed Burke’s home, which officials say will likely be demolished due to extensive damage.

Five neighboring properties also sustained damage from the flames.

Following the investigation, Burke was charged with six counts of aggravated arson, six counts of aggravated assault, and one count of obstructing the administration of law.

Authorities confirmed that the investigation is nearing its conclusion but have not ruled out additional findings.
