Police Arrest Five in Connection with Cranford Robbery

The Cranford Police Department announced today that five people have been arrested in connection with an assault robbery of a Garwood resident.

According to police, on Nov. 26th at approximately 2:19 a.m. a 22-year-old Garwood resident reported that he was beaten and robbed by a group of male suspects while walking on Lincoln Avenue West near Benjamin Street.

The group reportedly approached the victim as he was walking on the sidewalk, struck him in the face causing him to fall, and then one of the actors removed his wallet from his pocket prior to fleeing on foot.

Subsequent to a week long investigation the five suspects were identified and charged with second degree robbery.

Among the arrested were John Chinchar, 18, Brian Gioioso, 20, Sean Leonard,18, John Lobue, 19, and Ahmad Davis, 19, all from Cranford.

Chinchar, Gioso, Leonard, and Lobue were arrested on Thursday Dec. 8th, while Davis turned himself in to the Cranford Police this afternoon.

All five suspects were released on $10,000.00 bail.

The suspect sustained minor injuries from the robbery but was not transported to the hospital.
