Police Arrest, Charge Newark Man for Criminal Mischief, Burglary Tools

Police arrested a man and charged him in connection with a burglary according to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose.

The suspect, Gregory Carter, 18, of Newark was arrested in connection with a vehicle burglary Sunday night.

Authorities said, at approximately 11:40 p.m., members of the Newark Police Special Enforcement Bureau (S.E.B.) were patrolling the area of Avon Avenue and 13th Street when they observed a suspect huddled next to a red 2002 Dodge Intrepid.

When detectives approached, the suspect fled on foot, dropping a flathead screwdriver as he ran away authorities said.

S.E.B. detectives found that the vehicle had a damaged lock on the driver’s side door and ignition.

Gregory Carter was apprehended and arrested without incident.

He is charged with Criminal Mischief and Possession of Burglary Tools police said.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
