Police took a man into custody and charged him with possessing a loaded gun on a street in Newark's West Ward Thursday evening.
According to police, anonymous phone calls alerted police of a person with a weapon in the vicinity of 13th Avenue and Sout 19th Street at approximately 7:45 p.m.
Police said when they arrived at the scene, they found a male fitting the description of the suspect.
After an investigation, police say they found the weapon in the suspect's possession then placed him under arrest without further incident.
The incident remains under investigation.
