Police Apprehend Man that Attempted to Rob Woman in Newark

Police took a man into custody after he attempted to rob a woman for her cell phone then showed up in the area while police were investigating the incident.

According to reports, at around 3:30 p.m., police were called to the area of Sussex Avenue and 4th Street on reports of an attempted robbery.

Arriving units were approached by a woman who told authorities that a suspect who was last seen with dreadlocks and Adidas sneaker tried to rob her for a cellphone in the area.

While officers were taking the report, the victim reportedly spotted the suspect walking nearby and immediately brought it to officers' attention.

Cops on the scene began to follow the suspect in an attempt to interrogate him when moments later the suspect broke into a full sprint.

Multiple units setup a perimeter in the area where they cornered the suspect in the 100 block of 4th Street where the victim positively identified the suspect as the robbery suspect.

There were no physical injuries reported.
