Plainfield Police, Swat Arrest Barricaded Plainfield Man

Plainfield Police responded to 312 East Seventh Street, apartment 101 on a report of a domestic dispute.

Upon arrival, Officers were met outside by a 19 year old female who indicated to the officers that her boyfriend, Mr. Elmer Garcia, 40, possessed a handgun and pointed it at her then threatened to kill her.

Authorities said the woman further indicated that Garcia barricaded himself in the apartment.

Supervisors and officers immediately evacuated the apartment building and secured the surrounding area.

Plainfield Police notified the Union County SWAT Team who swiftly responded.

Authorities said SWAT Team Negotiators made several attempts to persuade Garcia to surrender when he failed to respond to the negotiators requests.

Members of the SWAT Team subsequently made entry to the apartment and found Garcia hiding in the ceiling area within a closet in the bedroom.

Police took Garcia into custody at around 3:20 a.m. without incident and transported him to Plainfield Police Headquarters.

Police charged Garcia with Aggravated Assault, Terroristic Threats , Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose authorities said.

The incident remains under investigation.
