Plainfield Man Arrested in Pennsylvania for 2023 Fatal Stabbing

A Plainfield man charged with a fatal stabbing in 2023 was arrested on Friday, May 10th, in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel and Plainfield Police Director James T. Abney announced today.AdAswad J. Spruiel, 44, faces charges including one count of first-degree murder, one count of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

The incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023, when Plainfield Police Officers and NJ Transit Police Officers responded to the Plainfield Train Station on 4th Street.

They found Juquin Smith, 45, suffering from stab wounds. Smith was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Spruiel was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals on Friday, May 10, 2024, and is currently held in Northumberland County Prison in Pennsylvania, awaiting extradition.AdThe investigation is ongoing.
