Plainfield Experiences Major Reduction in Crime

Plainfield

Plainfield Mayor Adrian O. Mapp announces that the City of Plainfield has seen a significant reduction in crime in 2014 in comparison to 2013.

Violent crimes against people and the majority of non-violent property crimes saw a reduction in 2014. This includes a 67% reduction in homicide, 33% reduction in aggravated assaults w/firearms, 26% reduction in motor vehicle theft, 19% reduction in robbery, and 17% reduction in burglary.

“Our mission is clear. We want to reduce gun or any type of violence to have a safe and prosperous City. Keeping our residents and children out of harm’s way is a priority for Plainfield” said Mayor Mapp. City Public Safety and Police Director Carl Riley indicated, “Over the past year we redeployed our Patrol Officers to conduct directed patrols throughout specific areas within the City between answering calls for service. This has helped with crime suppression as the Officers have done an excellent job with this task.”

Riley also mentioned, “We have recovered 50 guns from the streets as a result of investigations conducted mainly by the Police Divisions Narcotics Bureau. Our aggressive investigative approach, along with strategic changes that we made in the Patrol Division coupled with better accountability from the Command Staff and Officers has helped.”

Mayor Mapp further indicated that he is excited that, in the near future the Police Division will be installing 30 high-definition cameras at various locations throughout the City. “With cameras in place as a force multiplier, police work can be much more proactive. These cameras will give the operators the ability to have a 360 degree panoramic view up to several hundred feet within the area” according to Mayor Mapp.

The Police Division will also be outfitting at least 20 patrol vehicles with GPS Systems. “This system will not only support officer safety, but will enable dispatchers to locate and dispatch the nearest Officer to a call for service. This will also help increase our response times” said Riley.

Mayor Mapp says “The Mapp Administration and the Plainfield Department of Public Safety will continue to strive to increase service efficiency and responsiveness to the citizens to help the City of Plainfield to become a great place to live.”
