According to a statement released by the Plainfield Police Department, Oldfield — who had been reported missing since January 24, 2026 — was found in the Green Brook near the Roosevelt Avenue bridge.

Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding his death at this time.

Plainfield Police Director James T. Abney expressed condolences to the family and acknowledged the emotional toll on the community.

“The Plainfield Police Department has confirmed that Connor Oldfield, a 19-year-old city resident, has been located and is deceased,” Director Abney stated. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family during this difficult time.”

Director Abney also highlighted the coordinated efforts behind the weeks-long search, thanking multiple agencies that assisted, including Plainfield Police, Fire Department personnel, DPW, the Signal Division, OEM, the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, Union County Police, UCOEM, the New Jersey State Police, and other supporting departments. Officials noted that the search effort spanned more than three weeks and involved sustained inter-agency cooperation.

Plainfield Mayor Adrian O. Mapp addressed the community, describing the loss as one that will be deeply felt throughout the city.

“This is not the outcome any of us wanted,” Mayor Mapp said. “We grieve alongside Connor’s family and loved ones and ask our community to continue surrounding them with compassion, dignity, and respect. During moments like this, Plainfield must stand together and allow the family the space they need to mourn.”
