Phone Threat to Cranford High School Under Investigation

Police are investigating an unsubstantiated threat that was made to the high school this morning.

According to police, at approximately 10 a.m. an anonymous phone call, lasting just over 1 minute, came into the CHS main office making an unsubstantiated threat.

The high school was immediately placed on lockdown mode, where students and staff remain quietly in their classrooms with classroom doors locked.

Due to proximity, Brookside Place School was also placed on lockdown taking additional safety precautions. Police responded immediately conducting a visual sweep of the high school facility and neighboring Brookside Place School.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the high school with dogs to perform an internal security sweep. Both schools, Cranford High School and Brookside Place School are now under a shelter in place, where classroom are instructed remain inside of their classrooms with no hallway passing.

At this time, all safety measures are being taken to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Police remain on-site at Cranford High School and during morning kindergarten dismissal at Brookside Place School.

Police will remain on-site until investigation of this unsubstantiated threat has been resolved.
