The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office has launched an active and ongoing investigation into a fatal crash that claimed one person’s life Tuesday afternoon along a busy stretch of U.S. Route 130 in Cranbury.

The crash occurred at approximately 3:22 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. Route 130 and South Main Street.
Preliminary information indicates the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control, veered off the right shoulder of the roadway, and slammed into a tree.
The impact was so severe that the vehicle split in half and caught fire, with initial emergency reports indicating possible entrapment.

Authorities confirmed the occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office are working with local authorities to determine what caused the crash. No additional information, including the identity of the victim, has been released.
Motorists experienced significant delays in the area as emergency crews remained on scene and investigators processed the crash site.
