Detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office are on the scene investigating and collecting evidence after the body of a person was found in a Newark neighborhood this afternoon.
Police responded to the area of Rose Street and Bergen Street at around 2 p.m. where the unidentified person was found a short distance from the graveyard according to on the scene reports.
It is not clear what caused the victim's death at this time.
The incident has not been confirmed a homicide as of 2:55 p.m.
UPDATE 3:52 p.m. A spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed this to be a male victim who suffered a gunshot injury.
This is now a homicide investigation.
