Detective from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office are on the scene investigating the circumstances behind the findings of a body inside a building in the city.
Details regarding the incident are developing but according to initial reports, firefighters were called to 25 North Harrison Street at around 2:30 p.m after receiving reports of a fire inside one of the apartments.
Arriving crews entered the burning residence and found an unconscious and unresponsive person reports said.
The person was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office would only say that they are investigating and incident inside the building and would release additional information as it becomes available.
It is believed that the person was dead before the fire but authorities could not immediately confirm.
