Person Extricated After Being Struck by NJ Transit Bus in East Orange

A serious overnight pedestrian strike involving a NJ Transit bus remains under investigation after a person was injured in East Orange just after midnight. According to preliminary information, East Orange Police and NJ Transit Police responded to the 500 block of South Clinton Street following multiple emergency calls reporting a pedestrian hit by a bus. 

Upon arrival, officers found the front windshield of the NJ Transit bus shattered and a person reportedly trapped beneath the vehicle.

East Orange firefighters were called in to assist with the extrication of the victim, who was successfully removed from under the bus and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. 

As of the start of the news cycle at 4:40 a.m., the victim’s condition has not been publicly disclosed.

Authorities have not yet released further details surrounding the circumstances of the incident, including the identity of the victim or what led up to the collision. 

The investigation is ongoing by both NJ Transit Police and East Orange law enforcement officials.
