A person was killed early Tuesday after becoming trapped beneath a garbage truck in Union City, according to preliminary emergency dispatch information.
Emergency responders were dispatched shortly before 3:40 a.m. to the area of 3600 Bergen Turnpike for a report of a person trapped underneath a garbage truck.
Firefighters worked to free the victim while emergency medical personnel provided assistance. 
At approximately 4:19 a.m., EMS personnel advised that the victim had been pronounced dead at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the person became trapped beneath the vehicle, were not immediately available.
Union City Police and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office are expected to investigate the fatal incident.
