Newark

By: Richard L. Smith

Participants in Newark’s annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk are waking up to mild, comfortable conditions this Sunday morning, ideal weather for an inspiring day in pink as the city comes together to raise awareness and support for a cure.

As of 4:30 a.m., the opening of our news day, it was 53 degrees at Mulberry Commons on Mulberry Street, where registration for the walk begins at 8 a.m. and the march kicks off at 10 a.m.

A light jacket may be needed to start the day, but forecasters say temperatures will warm up quickly, making for a pleasant and comfortable morning outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service, patchy fog will clear by 8 a.m., giving way to mostly sunny skies and a high near 74 degrees.

Light south winds will increase to 10–15 mph, with occasional gusts up to 26 mph.

Tonight, showers and possibly a thunderstorm are expected after 2 a.m., but the rain will hold off long enough for participants to enjoy a bright, uplifting morning event.

So, grab your pink gear, lace up those sneakers, and help Newark continue to make strides in the fight against breast cancer.
