Pennsylvania Fatal Police Involved Shooting Victim Identified as NJ Man

Pennsylvanian authorities have released the name of the man who was shot and killed by police near Dorney Park in South Whitehall Township.

According to a statement released by police, the man has been identified as Joseph Santos, 44, of Hasbrouck Heights.

Officials say officers opened fire on Santos shooting at around 5:45 p.m. Saturday on Hamilton Boulevard.

According to authorities, shortly before the shooting, Santos was allegedly jumping on cars causing damage to some of them.

South Whitehall police officers responded to the scene and began talking to Santos according to authorities.

Santos was seen on video standing alongside a police cruiser.

Police say the video shows him walking away from the officer, and then walking back toward the officer.

An officer can be heard in the video, warning the man to get on the ground. Then, several shots are fired by the officer.

Police would not say if Santos had a weapon on him.

Pennsylvania State Police are leading the investigation at the request of the Lehigh County District Attorney.
