Pedestrians Injured After Running from Shots Fired Incidents in Newark's Central Ward

A shots fired incident that sent pedestrians scurrying away from the scene had police in a newark Central Ward community on Friday night.

Several rounds of gunfire erupted in the vicinity of Springfield Avenue and Prince Street at approximately 10:20 p.m. sending police to the scene where officers found shell casings and other evidence to prove that a shooting had occurred.

According to a preliminary investigation, an unidentified gunman arrived in the area and began to fire shots for an unknown reason.

Reports say at least two of several people who attempted to run from the scene were injured due to falls, but gunfire did not strike the victims.

The victims' injuries were not reported as life-threatening

Police are continuing to investigate the motive for the shooting.
