Police closed off two lanes on U.S-1 in Woodbridge as detectives investigated an incident where a vehicle struck a pedestrian leaving them with life-threatening injuries.
It happened at around 1:45 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the highway near I-287 where emergency responders rushed to the scene after receiving reports of an injured person on the roadway.
Police and EMS arrived at that location and found the unconscious person suffering severe injuries.
As of 3:25 a.m., we could only confirm "grave" injuries for the victim and investigators continuing to work the scene in an effort to determine the cause of the incident.
It is not clear if the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
