Maplewood Police are investigating a pedestrian crash that left an Irvington resident injured Thursday evening.
According to police, officers responded on January 8, to the intersection of Oakland Road and Prospect Street after receiving reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
When officers arrived, they found the victim on the ground complaining of pain to the right leg.
Investigators said a witness at the scene confirmed that the vehicle was traveling northbound on Prospect Street and struck the pedestrian while attempting to make a left turn onto Oakland Road.
The victim was crossing Oakland Road southbound in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.
Members of the South Essex Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the victim to University Hospital for treatment of a possible broken right leg.
Police said the driver was issued a summons for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, in violation of New Jersey statute 39:4-36(A)(1).
The investigation remains ongoing.
