Authorities in Ocean County are investigating a tragic incident that claimed the life of a pedestrian early Tuesday morning in Barnegat Township.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred shortly before 4 a.m. near 925 West Bay Avenue, where emergency responders were dispatched following 911 calls reporting a person struck by a vehicle.
When police and EMS arrived on the scene, they found an unidentified individual suffering from severe injuries.
Despite life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
As of now, officials have not released the identity of the victim or any information regarding the driver or vehicle involved.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under active investigation by local authorities.
Motorists in the area were advised to use caution during the early morning hours as officials worked at the scene.
