Authorities are investigating a deadly pedestrian collision that occurred Wednesday night along Route 1 in Elizabeth, Union County.
According to preliminary information, emergency responders were called to the area of 1166 Spring Street shortly before 9:40 p.m. on October 14, following reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
Initial reports indicate that the victim was struck by a vehicle believed to be a tractor-trailer traveling northbound on Route 1 toward Newark.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has not been released.
It remains unclear whether the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene following the collision.
As authorities investigated, all northbound lanes of Route 1 were shut down between North Avenue and the Newark city line.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation, and additional details have not been confirmed.
