Authorities in Monmouth County are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a young pedestrian Friday morning in Eatontown.
According to a statement released by Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago, the incident occurred on March 27 at approximately 7:18 a.m. in the area of Route 35 and the Monmouth Mall jughandle in Eatontown.
Preliminary findings indicate that a 2019 Honda Insight was traveling southbound on Route 35 when it struck an adult male who was crossing from the eastbound side of the roadway.
The victim, identified as 22-year-old Edwin Chavez-Solis, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 7:40 a.m.
Authorities said the driver remained at the scene and was not injured.
The crash remains under active investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Eatontown Police Department.
