A pedestrian was struck and killed Monday night on Route 1 in South Brunswick Township, prompting authorities to shut down a section of the highway while investigators worked at the scene.
The fatal crash occurred near the intersection of U.S. Route 1 and New Road shortly before 9:30 p.m. Initial reports from emergency responders indicated the victim was possibly deceased.
The fatality was later confirmed.
South Brunswick police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, while firefighters remained on scene to provide lighting for investigators.
Route 1 was closed for several hours as authorities processed the scene.
The identity of the victim has not been released, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
