Pedestrian Killed by Car on Frelinghuysen Avenue in Newark

Authorities in Essex County are investigating a pedestrian strike that caused fatal injuries to a person Tuesday morning in Newark. 

In a preliminary investigation, police responded to reports of an injured person in the vicinity of Emerson Place and Frelinghuysen Avenue just before 3:25 a.m. 

When emergency responders arrived, they found an unidentified person lying on the ground suffering severe injuries after a vehicle struck them at that location. 

Police say the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has been notified of the fatal pedestrian strike. 

Officials say the incident is under investigation.
