Peaceful Resolution Reported Following SWAT Activation in Montgomery Township

Montgomery

Somerset County officials announced the peaceful resolution following the Somerset County SWAT activation in Montgomery Township.

Prosecutor Robertson stated that on Tuesday, August 17, at approximately 5:34 a.m., Montgomery Township Police received and responded to a call from a male victim who reported to police that while he was visiting a residence on Elm Drive, Skillman, the male homeowner, who is known to the victim, answered the front door of the residence, exited the residence, and then fired a single shot from a handgun at him while outside of the residence.

According to Prosecutor Robertson, the victim reported that he was not struck by the shot and informed authorities that he was no longer at the scene. The male victim reported to police that he had gone to the residence to collect a debt from the homeowner.

Prosecutor Robertson stated that Montgomery Township Police responded to the scene to make contact with the resident.

According to Prosecutor Robertson, at approximately 6:35 a.m., after several unsuccessful attempts to make contact with the homeowner, Montgomery Township Police requested the Somerset County SWAT and Crisis Negotiators' activation to the scene for a possible barricaded subject.

Prosecutor Robertson said that members of the Somerset County SWAT along with Crisis Negotiators, Somerset County Communications Mobile Command Center, and Tactical Emergency Medics responded to the scene.

As a result of this activation, Crisis Negotiators were successful in making contact and speaking with the sole male occupant of the residence.

According to Prosecutor Robertson, at approximately 9:20 a.m., upon a successful negotiation, the male occupant complied and voluntarily exited the residence where he was secured and turned over to Montgomery Township Police Detectives for further investigation.

No charges have been filed as the matter currently remains under investigation by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Montgomery Township Police Department.
