Authorities in Passaic County announced the arrest of Paul Yang, 32, of Leonia.
Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes stated that Mr. Yang was arrested on December 3, after an investigation conducted by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.

According to Passaic County officials, on October 22, the Institutional Abuse Investigation Unit of the Division of Child Protection and Permanency advised PCPO Special Victims Unit Detectives that a 9-year-old female student at Paterson Public School No. 25 had disclosed that an incident of abuse had taken place inside a classroom during the school day.
The investigation led to Mr. Yang being charged with one count of Explicit Contact and one count of second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, PCPO officials say.
The sentencing exposure is five to ten years in New Jersey State Prison on second-degree Explicit Contact and five to ten years in New Jersey State Prison on second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, PCPO authorities said.
Passaic County officials said that on December 4, Mr. Yang appeared for the Central Judicial Processing Court, and the State filed a Motion for Pretrial Detention. That Motion will be scheduled and heard before a Superior Court Judge.
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite the accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, in a court of law, Passaic County officials say.
Any inquiries regarding Mr. Yang’s employment status may be directed to the Paterson Board of Education.
