Paterson Man with Loaded Gun, Arrested at Newark Airport

A Paterson man who allegedly tried to bring a loaded gun through airport security at Newark Airport was arrested this morning.

 

According to authorities, Jason Megariotis, 35, of Paterson, who was due to board an Aruba flight was taken into custody after a Terminal C Transportation Security Administration agent detected the

.32 caliber handgun in a backpack as it passed along a conveyor belt.

A search of the backpack shortly after 7 this morning, led to the seizure of the firearm, and five hollow-point bullets, including one which was in the chamber.

Megariotis was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.

His was released on $30,000 bail and is due in court on May 10.
