Paterson Man Charged with Fatal Shooting Pleads Not Guilty

A 32-year-old Paterson man accused of fatally shooting a city man at an illegal after-hours club, pleaded not guilty Friday.

Jaquan Harrison, of Paterson, was charged with first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in connection with the shooting of Fernando Irby, 25, of Paterson, on December 27.

Also fatally injured by gunfire was 26-year-old Kashif Belfield, of Paterson. Harrison has not been charged in connection with his death.

Harrison's bail remained at $1 million. He is currently being held in at the Passaic County Jail.

According to officials, on Dec. 27, officers responded to a report of shots fired sometime around 3:45 a.m., where they found both Irby and Belfield wounded.

Both men were transported to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, where they succumbed to their injuries.
