Paterson Man Arrested in Connection with Arson Investigation

Passaic County officials announce that based upon an investigation by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, the Paterson Police Department, and the Paterson Fire Department, Giancarick Carbonell, 32 years old, of Paterson, was arrested in the early morning hours of February 2, in relation to an investigation that began on the evening of February 1.

Mr. Carbonell is charged with Aggravated Arson, Second Degree.

According to police, on February 1, at approximately 10:15 p.m., police and fire personnel responded to a report of a fire at 215 Market Street in the City of Paterson. The structure consists of a two-story commercial building. The fire did not affect any adjoining structures, and there were no injuries.

Based on the joint investigation, Mr. Carbonell was charged. The sentencing exposure on Second Degree Aggravated Arson is 5-10 years in New Jersey State Prison.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
