Paterson Man Arrested for Brutal Beating, Robbery 58-Year-Old Man

Passaic County officials announced that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police Department, Mr. Gregory Coleman, 41, of Paterson was arrested in relation to a robbery investigation that took place July 20 in the area of Van Houten Avenue in Paterson.

According to police, at approximately 5:00 a.m., officers responded to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center after they were advised that a 58-year-old male Paterson resident arrived seeking medical treatment for life-threatening injuries.

Detectives determined that the victim was robbed in the area of 242 Van Houten Street at approximately 2:00 a.m on July 20. During the incident, the suspect struck the victim in the head with a blunt object, causing severe bodily injury.

Based on the investigation, Coleman was identified and arrested on July 24, in the area of 450 Broadway in Paterson.

Police say the 58-year-old victim is in critical condition.

Police say Coleman is charged with Attempted Murder, First Degree, Robbery, First Degree, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Third Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Fourth Degree; Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons, Fourth Degree; and Hindering Apprehension, Third Degree.
